LANDIS — Residents and visitors of Landis should keep their eyes peeled whenever they are in town. It might just pay off.
The Landis Police Department organized a scavenger hunt of painted rocks that will be scattered throughout the town with special prizes attached.
“We’re excited to announce a unique community project that’s all about getting people outside and engaged with nature while promoting a sense of community and social interaction,” Police Chief Matthew Geelen said on Monday.
But, wait, why the painted rocks?
“We chose painted rocks because they’re easy to hide and will give adults and youth alike a reason to get outside and be active,” Geelen said. “They’re also a fun and creative way to bring people together and encourage exploration. By painting the rocks, we’re providing a hidden-treasure-hunt-style activity that will get people out of their homes and into the community, enjoying the great outdoors.”
To add a little incentive, anyone who finds the rocks can turn them in for a prize.
“We’ve partnered with local businesses in the town of Landis to offer gift cards as prizes,” Geelen said. “Winners will receive gift cards to the Landis Creamery, a beloved local institution, and passes to the town of Landis Pool, a popular summer spot. These prizes are a small token of appreciation for participating in this community project and we’re excited to support our local businesses in the process.”
Geelen explained that while its got all the hallmark features of a fundraiser, it’s not about that at all, but rather just helping the community get outside and have a little fun in the process.
“This is not a fundraiser,” Geelen said. “This project is a fun way to bring people together and encourage exploration without any financial gain.”
Be on the look out. You might just notice a rock that doesn’t look quite right and it’ll turn out to be your lucky day.
