SPENCER — For nearly a decade, Denise and Chris Underwood have been igniting the passion for line dancing in their community. Their journey, which began on the dance floor, has blossomed into a shared love for dance and each other, compelling them to share this joy with others through teaching.
The couple first met during a line dancing event, and it was their mutual love for the dance that brought them together.
“Line dancing is an activity that anyone can do. You don’t need a partner,” Denise said. “We teach a variety of levels and dance to a variety of music, including some pop songs. We want our dancers to have fun.”
The Underwood’s enthusiasm and inclusive approach have made their classes popular among people of all ages and skill levels. Their goal is simple: to create a fun, welcoming environment where everyone can enjoy the benefits of dance.
Due to the growing demand for their classes, the Underwoods have partnered with the First Community Center of Spencer.
Starting in May they began offering classes every second and fourth Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the center, located at 215 5th Street in Spencer.
Those sessions are perfect for anyone looking to learn new dance moves, improve their skills, or simply have a great time.
In addition to their regular classes, the Underwoods will be hosting a special line dancing event on Saturday at the same location. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the evening will begin with lessons from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a night of open dancing with DJ JJ spinning the tunes.
The cost for this event is $10 per person and refreshments will be available for purchase.
Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just looking to try something new, the Underwood’s line dancing classes offer an opportunity to enjoy music, movement and community.
