SALISBURY — A man has been charged after deputies said that he was found to have marijuana while being checked into the jail after he was arrested for hanging out with a runaway 15-year-old.

Deputies initially responded to the area of Furniture Drive at approximately 3 a.m. on Wednesday after a parent reported that their teenage daughter had run away from home and not returned, said Chief Deputy Jason Owens, a spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department. Deputies reportedly found her in the 100 block of Furniture Drive, hanging out with 23-year-old Jermaine Tye Wade.

Wade was reportedly arrested by deputies and charged with misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was transported to the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office, where deputies asked him both before entering the building and after leaving it if he was carrying any controlled substances or weapons that would incur additional charges if brought into the Rowan County Detention Center, said Owens.

While deputies were searching Wade in order to check him into the detention center, a clear bag filled with marijuana fell out of his pants, said Owens. Deputies then charged Wade with additional charges of felony possession of a controlled substance on the premises of a penal institution and possession of between 0.5 and 1.5 ounces of marijuana.

Wade was placed into the detention center and given a bond of $2,501, according to sheriff’s office records.
