High school track and field: North Hills wins conference championship, competes in state meet

SALISBURY — Competing in track and field for the first time, the North Hills boys teams won the Southern Piedmont Athletic Association championship.

Winners in the conference meet were Malachi Strong in the 400; Linden Hamilton in the high jump, long jump and triple jump, and Mark Rendell in the 300 hurdles.

The 4×400 relay team also won.

London Droddy won the shot put for the North Hills girls, and the North Hills girls won the 4×400.

Coaches are Michelle Droddy and Speedy Smith.

North Hills competed in the NCISAA Division III State Championships  in Gastonia.

Droddy was seventh in the shot put (22-1.25).

Jordan Lawing was ninth in the boys high jump (5-4).

Strong was eighth in the 400 (53.37), 10th in the 200 (23.65) and 11th in the 100 (11.54).

Hamilton  was 13th in the triple jump (35-6.5) and 17th in the long jump (17-4.75).
