Brandon Lane named RSSS Teacher of the Year

LANDIS — Landis Elementary music teacher Brandon Lane was named the Rowan-Salisbury School System district-wide teacher of the year.

The formal announcement was made by RSS Superintendent Dr. Kelly Withers on May 10 at Landis Elementary.

Lane was surprised by RSS Teacher of the Year judges, Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education members, district administrators, his students, friends, colleagues and Landis administrators.

A graduate of Southern New Hampshire University, Lane moved to North Carolina in 2022 to join the teaching staff at Landis Elementary.

Lane has effectively integrated enriching activities into the curriculum, such as international folk songs and dances, and has spearheaded projects that connect students to a broader cultural context,” a statement from the school system said. Known for his stylish neckties, Lane’s favorite duty is greeting students in the morning car rider line, where he loves to create themed music setlists to start students’ day on a high note.

“Mr. Lane is high-energy and filled with joy, which spreads to everyone around him,” Withers said. “He is an excellent representative of the arts and their important role in education. Throughout his year representing Rowan-Salisbury Schools, Mr. Lane is sure make a positive impact.”

Lane was one of 32 teachers representing each school in the district and was one of six finalists.

Lane’s recognition as Teacher of the Year was also celebrated with a variety of gifts from the community and beyond, including gift cards from Gunpowder and Lead, Texas Roadhouse, Caniche, and Ralph Baker Shoes. Additional gifts were provided by Ashlee’s Embroidery, the Carolina Panthers, FinalSite, PeachJar, Lego Education and School Outfitters.

Lane will now advance to the 2024 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year competition comprised of regional winners across the state. The state winner will be announced in the Spring of 2025.
