High school basketball: WR’s Arnold named to East-West All-Star roster

GREENSBORO — West Rowan senior Lauren Arnold, a Mars Hill recruit, has accepted an invitation to play in this summer’s East-West All-Star Basketball game.

Arnold had a phenomenal career for coach Ashley Poole’s Falcons. She was twice the MVP of the 3A state championship game and she played in the Carolinas Classic against the South Carolina All-Stars.

Arnold was South Piedmont Conference Player of the Year as a junior and won the Shayla Fields Award as the top female player in Rowan County as a senior.

Arnold averaged 16.3 points per game this season and finished her four-year varsity career with 1.593 points.

The West head coach is former Catawba standout Angela Mayfield, who coaches Mount Airy High.

The West roster for the boys game includes Central Cabarrus twins Carson and Chase Daniel, who led the Vikings to back-to-back state titles. They are Catawba College recruits who were coached in high school by former Catawba player and coach Jim Baker, a North Rowan grad.

The West team also has Santana Lynch, the Lake Norman star who is the son of former UNC standout George Lynch, and Mooresville guard Jalen Chambers.

The games are scheduled for July 15 in the Greensboro Coliseum.
