Staff report

Pine Lake Prep and East Surry finally were able to play their third-round match in the 2A dual team state playoffs on Monday.

The result was the one that Salisbury expected. Third-seeded Pine Lake Prep (11-1) handled sixth-seeded East Surry 6-0.

Rain is expected on Tuesday, so the plan is for second-seeded Salisbury (18-1) to host Pine Lake Prep in a fourth-round match on Wednesday.

It’s going to be a tough match. Pine Lake Prep is the defending champ for 2A dual team tennis.

Salisbury won 6-0 against Hendersonville last week in the third round, beat Community School of Davidson 5-2 in the second round and had a first-round bye.

Salisbury had five players competing in the 2A individual championships over the weekend in Holly Springs, so a small break is probably not a bad thing.

Pine Lake Prep’s No. 1 player Jackson Gratwohl lost a three-set match to the individual 2A state champion in Holly Springs.
