High school girls track and field: South’s Miller wins high jump in regional

CONCORD — South Rowan’s Macy Miller, a recent NC State commit, won the high jump in the 3A Midwest Regional Track and Field Meet held at Jay M. Robinson High on Saturday.

Miller has jumped 5 feet, 7 inches, but 5-3 was enough to win the regional.

Top four finishers in each individual event and each relay advanced to the 3A State Championships in Greensboro.

Dudley’s girls won the regional team title in a runaway — piling up 133 points. Northwest Cabarrus was second with 63 points.

South led the four Rowan schools in the event with 21 points in a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring system. The Raiders were 12th in the team scoring.

South’s Mesiyah Howell  was a state qualifier with a fourth-place finish in the 400 (58.70),

South’s 4×400 relay team also is headed to the state event. Hannah Dellinger, Madalynn Gulledge, Howell and Sadie Siscoe took fourth place in 4:15.85.

Gulledge also earned a point for an eighth-place finish in the 800.

East Rowan scored 13 points and tied Carson for 16th.

Sadie Featherstone was fourth in the 300 hurdles (46.55) to qualify for state.

Also qualifying for the trip to Greensboro was Jasmyne Brown. She placed third in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet.

Iyanna Lynch Berry added two points for the Mustangs for seventh place in the triple jump.

Cadi Joyner placed third in the high jump (4-10) and was the lone state qualifier for the Carson girls.

Julia Burleson had a sixth place in the 3200, while Kara Crotts took seventh in that event.

Leana Baldwin placed seventh in the high jump.

Skyy Ruben scored the only point for West Rowan with an eighth-place effort in the discus.
