MOUNT PLEASANT — Two first places and two third places in the relays meant lots of state qualifiers for Salisbury’s boys in Friday’s 2A Midwest Regional at Mount Pleasant.

The Hornets piled up 32 points in the relays. They totaled 72 points — all on the track— to finish third in the regional. High Point’s TW Andrews High amassed a winning total of 152 points. Monroe was second with 79.

While all teams strive to win regional championships, the main purpose of the regionals is to qualify athletes for the state meet. The top four in each event move on to the state.

Salisbury’s 4×800 unit of Samuel Fatovic, Austin Massaquori, Finnegan Avery and Jamal Rule won in 8:22.

The 4×400 team crew of Jeremiah Davidson, Jaylyn Smith, Jordan Waller and Rule won in 3:27.73.

The 4×200 relay team of Deuce Walker, Rule, Waller and Smith placed third in 1:28.87.

The 4×100 relay team of Quincy Robinson, Jaylin Johnson, Smith and Walker was third in 43.14 seconds.

Besides contributing to the success of three relay teams, Rule won the 400 in 48.89.

Fatovic, a freshman, was third in the 1600 in 4:40.

Davidson had a fourth place in the 400 (51.43), Smith took fourth in the 200 (22.36),

Walker didn’t qualify for the state in his individual events, but he was seventh in the 100 and 200 to provide points for the Hornets in a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring system.

Avery was fifth in the 800 and sixth in the 1600.

Robert Moulton was sixth in the 300 hurdles.
