SALISBURY — Salisbury is the host team for the 2A Midwest Regional for boys golf that will be held on Monday at the Country Club of Salisbury.

The Hornets, champions of Rowan County and the Central Carolina Conference, have a chance to use the 18-hole regional as a stepping stone to the state tournament.

East Rowan, runner-up in the county and in the South Piedmont Conference, also has a strong team and will be one of the teams to watch in Monday’s 3A Midwest Regional at Sapona.

Northwest Cabarrus is hosting that event and will be one of the favorites to advance to the state tournament.

Teams can have five members, but only the top four scores count toward the team score.

The top three teams in each regional advance to the state tournament as well as the top nine individuals not on one of the qualifying teams.

The 36-hole state tournaments are scheduled for May 13-14.
