SALISBURY — A Rowan County man has been arrested after deputies said an argument devolved into a physical altercation, which ended when the victim called a friend and asked for help while being attacked.

The incident began at approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday, when deputies responded to the 1100 block of Barger Road after a third party called and said someone was being assaulted there, according to Captain Mark McDaniel, the public information officer for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. The third-party caller told deputies that they had received a FaceTime call from the victim, who was actively being pinned to the ground and asking for help, said McDaniel.

When deputies arrived at the home, they reportedly found the victim locked inside her own car. She told them that the incident had begun as an argument in a trailer on the property, when the man, identified as 30-year-old George Edgar Michael Forren, started to become physically violent and she asked him to calm down and tried to leave, according to McDaniel.

When the victim tried to leave, Forren allegedly grabbed her and pushed her to the ground before allegedly striking her in the face multiple times and choking her with both hands. Forren also put the victim in a chokehold with his arm, all while holding her on the ground, said McDaniel. The victim was eventually able to escape before locking herself in her car.

The deputies reportedly observed physical signs on the victim that were consistent with her story about the assault, including signs that she had been strangled. Deputies then reportedly went to speak with Forren and observed minor physical signs of an assault on him. Due to the signs of strangulation, Forren was taken into custody on scene and charged with felony assault by strangulation, according to McDaniel.

Forren was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and is being held without bond as the alleged crimes were determined to be domestic in nature.
