SALISBURY — Racial Equity Rowan is hosting a forum called “Exploring Education” later this month. The event takes place on Monday, April 29, from 5:30-7 p.m.
This forum is a follow-up to an earlier forum headlined by DeeDee Wright.
On April 29, attendees will hear from Rowan-Salisbury Schools Superintendent Dr. Kelly Withers and Chief Resources Officer Carol Herndon on the topic of education and equity.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be hosted at the Wallace Educational Forum located at 500 N Main St., Salisbury.
Following remarks from the speakers, there will be time for questions and responses.
Racial Equity Rowan exists to promote equity across racial lines so that we can meet our community’s potential together. The organization’s members believe that the community is made of up people who want the best for each other.
“However, what we lack is a common narrative about our history and insights into how this past has shaped the institutions and attitudes of our society,” a release from the program stated. “The root of our divisions and inequalities are the structures that work so well for some of us and so poorly for others of us. This is what we’re working to change, starting with the story we tell ourselves about race, history, and our community.”
The next two-day workshop will be hosted on Sept. 11-12 and registration is available at the organization’s website. For more information, contact racialequityrowan@gmail.com or visit www.racialequityrowan.org.
