Preview: Kannapolis City Council to vote on approving CDBG and HOME program fund

KANNAPOLIS — At its upcoming meeting, the Kannapolis City Council will consider approving the fiscal year 2024-2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnership (HOME) funds totaling $586,030 that is going to help pay for certain projects like city repairs, infrastructure, nonprofit partnerships, general administration, fair housing, new construction and homeowner rehab. There will be a public hearing regarding this matter.

The meeting will be on Monday, April 22, at the city hall building, 401 Laureate Way, at 6 p.m. Here are the other agenda items that will be discussed:

  • Director of Transportation and Environmental Services Michael Rattler will be conducting a city department spotlight on the transportation and environmental services department.
  • Mayor Darrell Hinnant will be making the following proclamations: National Day of Prayer and April Fair Housing Month.
  • Planning Director Richard Smith will be making a presentation to the council about a conditional zoning map amendment for Irish Glen Drive, West C Street and Glenn Avenue. There will be a public hearing regarding this matter.
  • Planning Director Richard Smith will be making a presentation to the council about renaming Southern Avenue to Kannapolis Veterans Way. There will be a public hearing regarding this matter.
  • Economic and Community Development Director Irene Wong will be asking the council to authorize the sale of city-owned property at 6106 Old Macedonia Court. There will be a public hearing regarding this matter.
  • Director of Transportation and Environmental Services Michael Rattler will be leading a presentation to the council about street acceptance policy text changes.
  • Rattler will be asking the council to set a date for a public hearing for acceptance of Opal Street for city maintenance and assessment of cost sharing of street improvements.
