From staff reports

SALISBURY — Salisbury’s baseball team routed Montgomery Central 20-2 on Thursday and has won four games in three days.

Having an 8-9 record feels a whole lot better than 4-9, but SHS coach Carson Herndon is keeping things in perspective. He realizes the four wins came against teams that aren’t powerhouses.

Still, the Hornets won all four convincingly and are going in the right direction. They’ve jumped up to 36th now in the 2A West RPI rankings, so they’re at least on the playoff bubble.

“All I know is we’re playing a whole lot better than we were a month ago,” Herndon said.

No doubt.

Hank Webb pitched three innings and struck out five against Montgomery Central (2-13). Landon Tucker breezed through the fourth and fifth in the five-inning game.

The Hornets had 14 hits and accepted 16 walks.

Mike Geter homered, doubled and drove in four runs to lead the offense. Cole Price and Ben Young drove in three runs each.

Besides Geter, Evan Koontz, Young, Webb and Tucker had two hits. Aiden Mowery had a hit, two walks and two RBIs. Jaylin Graham-Taylor scored twice.

SALISBURY — Salisbury won 7-0 against a short-handed Lexington team on Thursday.

Lexington only had five players, so No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles weren’t contested.

A.J. Jarrell, Gray Davis, Bryant Davis, Reid Hlavacek and Soyer Cornelison won singles matches.

Jarrell/Gray Davis and Cornelison/Hlavacek were winning doubles teams for the Hornets (13-1, 10-0).

The Hornets are second behind North Stanly in the 2A West RPI rankings.

LOCUST — Jaden Sprinkle shot 37 to lead East Rowan to a win against Gray Stone Day at Red Bridge.

Brady McIntyre (39), Landon Merrell (40) were next. Mason Mainville and Gavin Walker shot 48s.
