Lemonade in Landis to help children

Helping others who are in need is what Jaiden and Rylee Wells of Landis are trying to do whenever they set up their lemonade stand, Luxury Lemons, at various festivals and other local events.

The sisters, ages 10 and 9, respectively, have donated their time and the money raised from the sales to help others since July of last year, including money for St. Jude’s Hospital and for food and clothes for a family in need. They are continuing to reach out and lend a helping hand again this year as they have already been at several events including the Landis Cruise-In on April 5.

Their mom, Amber Wells, said the money from that event would be going to St. Jude’s Hospital once again.

“They are trying to get a headstart for July,” she said, “for St. Jude’s lemonade stand challenge.

When asked why she felt it was important to be out in the community raising support for St. Jude’s, Jaiden said, “because there’s a lot of young kids that might die and they are getting really sick.”

Nate Benfield, who said he had just gotten off work at the police department and was there just for fun to see all the cars at the cruise-in, dropped by the tent to purchase one of the lemonades.

“The world would be a better place if we all would just show kindness and lend a helping hand when we can,” said Rylee.

And while the winds and cooler temperatures hindered sales for them on Friday, they will be attending other events in the next few months to help them in their fundraising efforts and will be returning to the cruise-ins, which are held the first Friday of every month, Amber said.

Additional events they plan to attend are the Monroe Spring Festival on April 13, Hits After 6 concerts in Indian Trail on April 18 and May 16, a new benefit car show for veterans, called the American Patriot Classic, in Salisbury on April 20, the Pickle Festival on April 27 and Kennedy Family Farm on May 4.

Amber said in an email that they are hoping to have a food truck soon so they can secure additional events.
