SALISBURY — Three people have been charged after police said one fired a weapon at their neighbor following an argument about speeding in the neighborhood.

Deputies reportedly responded at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Saturday to a physical disturbance in the 200 block of Faggart Circle. There, they found the victim, who said that he had confronted a neighbor about her speeding through the neighborhood and following him too closely, according to Captain Mark McDaniel, spokesperson for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

After the confrontation, the woman’s family members allegedly drove into the victim’s driveway and began to threaten and argue with him. At some point during the argument, one of the family members, identified as 83-year-old Tommy Lee Overcash Sr., pulled a small handgun out and fired it in the direction of the victim, according to McDaniel. The victim then ran inside his home while the elder Overcash pursued him.

By the time the deputies arrived, the Overcash family had returned to their home, located in the 300 block of Faggart Circle. There, deputies arrested the eldest Overcash and 62-year-old Lemuel Todd Overcash.

Tommy Overcash Sr. was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree trespassing and communicating threats. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and given a $5,000 bond by Magistrate Beattie.

Lemuel Overcash was charged with second-degree trespassing and communicating threats. He was also placed in the detention center and was given a $1,000 bond by Beattie.

Another family member, Tommy Lee Overcash Jr., was served with a criminal summons for communicating threats.
