SALISBURY — A man injured after being run over by a vehicle on Sunday has died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The victim has been identified by the Salisbury Police Department as 24-year-old Shakeim Turner, a Salisbury resident.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, when a vehicle was traveling along Statesville Boulevard in between the Lash Drive and Majolica Road intersections. The driver heard a loud thump and felt his car run over something, said Major Justin Crews, a spokesperson for the police department. The driver pulled over and went to investigate and realized he had run over Turner, who had been lying in the middle of the road.

The driver then called 911 and reported the crash, said Crews. EMS arrived and treated Turner for his injuries on scene before transporting him to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Crews said that medical personnel were unable to stabilize Turner for a flight to another hospital.
