SALISBURY — A man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after police said a car ran over him in Salisbury on Sunday.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m., when a vehicle was traveling along Statesville Boulevard in between the Lash Drive and Majolica Road intersections. The driver heard a loud thump and felt his car run over something, a spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department said. The driver pulled over and went to look and realized he had run over a man who was lying in the middle of the road.

The driver then called 911 and reported the crash, the spokesperson said. EMS arrived and treated the man for his injuries on scene before transporting him to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The spokesperson said that medical personnel were unable to stabilize the man for a flight to another hospital.

Police are investigating the crash and more information will be provided if it becomes available.
