SALISBURY — Touching Hearts, a non-profit organization, and the Salisbury Elks #699 are teaming up to collect personal care and other items to donate to local agencies. Since their Holiday Heroes event in December was successful, the organizations decided to partner again in the spring.

The Worthy Warrior Brunch event is Saturday, April 13, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Salisbury Elks Lodge located at 508 South Main Street in Salisbury. The public is invited to bring donations to the lodge, help sort and pack and enjoy brunch with other volunteers. There is also a raffle and silent auction.

Items needed are personal care products for men and women, new and gently used adult and children’s clothing, baby items, cleaning items, gas and food gift cards, and small totes or containers.

“This event is open to everyone,” said Yolanda Bynum, Salisbury Elks member, who established Touching Hearts. Their mission is to help disabled veterans, forgotten seniors and children in need.

Bynum added, “Our motto is ‘the more hands we have, the more hearts we can touch.”

Donations will be distributed to Rowan County Family Crisis Council, Genesis House, My Sister’s Place, CVAN of Cabarrus County, and Break the Silence against Domestic Violence.

Although brunch reservations are not required, Bynum encourages people to reach out in advance of the event.

“It’s good to know how many people and what type of donations to expect so we can plan accordingly. Just go to www.eventbrite.com, and then search for Worthy Warrior Brunch for more info and to reserve your spot.”

Bynum can be contacted at Yolanda-Grayson@yahoo.com or 770-653-3676.
