College softball: Simpson hits first two college homers; lots of Rowan girls shining

EMORY, Va. — Emory & Henry freshman Karsen Simpson (West Rowan) hit her first two college homers on Friday in the Wasps’ wild doubleheader sweep of South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba.

Simpson homered in each game. She’s batting .395 in 20 games.

In both games, Catawba rallied to take the lead in the top of the seventh, only to have Emory & Henry walk off wins in the bottom half. The final scores were 14-13 and 15-14.

Kary Hales (Carson) is crushing the ball for Catawba and hit two more homers on Friday, her sixth and seventh of the season.

Hales is batting .360 and leads the Indians with 37 RBIs and 33 runs scored.

Guilford’s Chloee Stoner (North Rowan) lead the team with 21 runs scored and is batting .379.

McKenzie Misenheimer (East Rowan) has been Chowan’s best offensive player. She’s batting .391 with a .519 on-base percentage. She has 21 steals in 22 attempts and has scored 17 runs in 23 games.

Whitley Arnott (West Rowan) has two wins for East Tennessee State, including a complete game effort against Winthrop, in which she allowed only one run.

Lees-McRae’s Lonna Addison (Carson) has been the primary pitcher for the Bobcats as a freshman. She’s 8-10 with a 2.95 ERA and 151 strikeouts.

She’s also gotten to swing the bat some and is batting .315 with two homers and 11 RBIs.

Lauren Ritchie (A.L. Brown) has been the slugger for the Bobcats and has pounded eight homers.

Kali Morton, the former Mooresville pitcher who pitched Rowan Little League to its first World Series championship, is 10-0 with a 1.19 ERA.

App State freshman Brooke Kennerly (West Rowan) had three RBIs against Louisiana on Thursday.
