ROWAN COUNTY — The Gray Stone Day School community is mourning the loss of a student after a 16-year-old was killed in a single vehicle crash on Friday.

Noah Steven Nisbet, a Salisbury resident, was killed on Friday when his 2004 Volkswagen Jetta ran off the side of Stokes Ferry Road and crashed into a tree, according to a spokesperson for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 11:10 p.m. and determined that Nisbet had been traveling north on Stokes Ferry Road near the Morgan Pond Road intersection when he ran off the right side of the road for an undetermined reason.

“We are all very saddened by the loss of Noah. He was a very good student and a fine young man. He will certainly be missed by our whole school community. His family is in our thoughts during this difficult time,” Gray Stone Chief Administrative Officer Helen Nance said to the Stanly News and Press.

Nance also told the News and Press that school counselors and additional counselors were made available to the students on Monday. A candlelight vigil has been scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday on the soccer field at the school.
