KANNAPOLIS — A former A.L. Brown faculty member has been charged with sex crimes involving a former student.

The investigation by the Kannapolis Police Department began after it received information about inappropriate communication between a former faculty member at A.L. Brown High School and a 15-year-old student at the school, according to the department.

The investigation reportedly concluded that there in fact was inappropriate communication between the two and that sexual acts had been committed as well.

The former faculty member, identified as 29-year-old Jordan Ray Correll, was arrested on Tuesday, March 19, and charged with indecent liberties with a student, four counts of indecent liberties with a child and two counts of statutory rape of a child less than or equal to 15 years of age, according to police reports.

A.L. Brown Theatre’s website lists Correll as a former theater teacher with the school.

Correll was placed in the Cabarrus County Jail and was given a $1 million bond.
