ROWAN COUNTY — Communities in Schools of Rowan (CIS Rowan) has announced its selection as one of only 15 recipients in North Carolina to receive funding through the prestigious ELISS (Extended Learning and Integrated Students Supports) grant program. This grant will support CIS Rowan’s integrated programming efforts for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years.

The ELISS grant, awarded by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, represents a vital investment in supporting students’ academic success, socio-emotional well-being and overall growth. For every $1 raised, CIS Rowan will receive ELISS matching funds of $3 up to $333,140, amplifying the impact of local contributions and partnerships.

“We are immensely grateful to be chosen as recipients of the ELLIS grant,” said James Davis, executive director of CIS Rowan. This funding will enable us to continue providing integrated support programming, ensuring every student in our community has access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive academically and in life.”

CIS Rowan’s integrated support model focuses on providing comprehensive services to students, addressing both academic and non-academic barriers to success. From academic tutoring and mentoring to mental health counseling and family engagement initiatives, CIS Rowan’s programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of students and families in the community.

With the support of the ELISS grant, CIS Rowan will be able to:

  • Expand access to academic tutoring and enrichment programs
  • Strengthen partnerships with local organizations to provide wraparound services
  • Implement targeted interventions to support English Language Learners (ELL) and other underserved student populations
  • Enhance professional development opportunities for educators and staff

By leveraging the ELISS grant funding, CIS Rowan aims to create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students, ultimately helping them reach their full potential and succeed in school and beyond.
