College baseball: Catawba uses 8-run inning to beat North Georgia

SALISBURY — Catawba’s baseball team scored eight runs in the sixth inning and battered North Georgia 14-4 on Wednesday at Newman Park.

The teams were tied through five innings, but Catawba (20-7) erupted in the sixth. Ty Hubbard had the tie-breaking hit, Levi Perrell’s double made it 6-4. Dylan Driver’s two-run-double, Bo Rusher’s two-run single and Logan Rogers’ two-run single followed.

Payne Stolsworth (5-1) was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst against the Nighthawks (19-6).

Rusher had a 3-for-3 day, with a homer, double and five RBIs.

Driver had three doubles. Perrell had three hits. Hubbard had three hits and two RBIs.

Catawba had 18 hits and is 14-1 at home.

Catawba plays at Carson-Newman this weekend.
