High school baseball: Carson pulls out Saturday road win

CHARLOTTE — Caden Lewis drove in Jayven Parks in the top of the seventh with the tie-breaking run, as Carson’s baseball team won 6-5 on Saturday at Charlotte Catholic.

Lewis, a senior who is getting his first chance as a regular in the lineup, has been clutch for the Cougars (5-1). His seven hits so far this season have drive in a team-high seven runs.

Parks, a late-blooming junior, had some preseason hype and has lived up to it. He’s 8-for-19, a .421 batting average. Parks and Lewis have accounted for all of Carson’s extra-base hits so far.

Daxton Savage had another good game, 2-for-3 with two RBIs. He’s batting .333.

Nick Ayash had a run-scoring hit in the non-conference contest, while Will Bradshaw went 1-for-1 with two runs scored.

Maverick Walters started on the mound for Carson. He pitched four innings and gave his team a chance. Corbin Hales (2-0) relieved in the fifth and got the win.

Joey Hall and Sam Hucko had two hits each for Catholic (4-3).

Carson plays at Central Cabarrus on Tuesday in a South Piedmont Conference game. the Vikings have struggled so far this season, including an 11-1 loss at Carson.
