High school baseball roundup: West, South, East get SPC wins on Thursday

MOUNT ULLA — Alex Hagler, Drew Burton and Cole Blevins combined on a shutout as West Rowan clobbered Central Cabarrus 14-0 in five innings on Thursday.

Hagler pitched three innings. Burton struck out the side in his inning of work.

West took charge with a seven-run second inning.

Andrew Helmbold drove in three runs for the Falcons. Gage Scruggs, Brice Knox and Blevins had two RBIs each.

Blevins and Maddox Moore had doubles for the Falcons (3-3, 2-3). Central fell to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the South Piedmont Conference.

LANDIS —  Logan Ballard struck out 11 in five innings to lead South Rowan to a 9-1 South Piedmont Conference win against Concord on Thursday.

South scored four in the second and four more in the third to take control.

Conner Coy had two hits and two RBIs. James Rit

chie scored three runs for the Raiders (3-3, 2-3).

Mason Porter had two hits for the Spiders (1-4, 1-4).

CONCORD — It was 3-all after 5 innings on Thursday, but East Rowan beat Northwest Cabarrus 16-5 with a 10-run sixth inning.

Freshman Sam Blackwelder assaulted Northwest pitching for a double, triple and five RBIs.

McCall Henderson homered, scored two and knocked in two.

Braden Shive and Krys Hernandez had 3-for-4 efforts. Shive had a double and scored twice. Hernandez scored two and knocked in two.

Logan Dyer had two hits. One was a double and he drove in two.

Cobb Hightower and Joe Burleyson scored two runs. Harrison Ailshie knocked in two.

East starter Nate Hayworth pitched into the fifth and got relief help from Dyer and Hightower.

Alex Walker homered for Northwest. Starting pitcher Dalton Hazlett kept the Trojans in the game a long time, and he also had two hits.
