High school boys tennis: East, Salisbury win league matches

CONCORD – East Rowan won 5-4 against Central Cabarrus on Monday for a South Piedmont Conference victory.

East (2-0, 2-0) lost at 1 and 2 singles, but got a tight win at No. 3 singles from Thomas Stokes, who prevailed 7-6 (10-8), 6-4.

Preston Stephens, Will Kesler and Josh Gardner won their singles matches.

A 9-7 doubles win by Owen Kesler/Blake Mathews proved decisive for the Mustangs.

SALISBURY — Salisbury won 9-0 against South Davidson on Monday in Central Carolina Conference tennis.

The Hornets (3-0, 1-0) got singles wins from AJ Jarrell, Gray Davis, Bryant Davis, Reid Hlavacek, Soyer Cornelison and Ben Lawson.

Jarrell/Gray Davis, Hlavacek/Cornelison and Bryant Davis.Lawson were winning doubles teams.

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan lost to Lake Norman Charter 6-3 on Monday in SPC tennis.

Sam Gulledge won a third-set tiebreaker at No. 3 singles for the Falcons (1-2, 1-2). Freshman Callen Batts came back to win at No. 5.

West also took a close win at No. 3 doubles.
