SALISBURY — A dreary weather forecast for southwest Virginia moved Catawba’s series with Emory & Henry to Newman Park.

Catawba was happy with that news. The Indians have played better at home so far this season, and they drilled E&H 15-2 on Friday in a series opener shortened to seven innings.

Catawba (13-6, 4-3) scored five in the fifth and six in the sixth.

Logan Rogers hit a grand slam and drove in five for the Indians. Dylan Diver hit a solo homer and drove in three.

Cooper Bryson, Cole Hales, Ty Hubbard and Bo Rusher had two hits.

Austin Fine (4-1) breezed to the mound win. He threw a complete game.

Steven Smith, who starred at West Rowan, played second base for the Wasps (3-16, 1-9).

The series will resume at Newman Park with  a Sunday doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
