College men’s basketball: Catawba’s Jones named SAC Defensive Player of the Year

Catawba guard Javeon Jones has been voted South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

A senior guard, Jones leads Division II in steals per game with 3.8 per game. He has 75 this season. He scored 13.3 points per game and averaged 4.7 rebounds, as Catawba shared the league title with Wingate and Lincoln Memorial.

Jones was first team All-SAC. Catawba’s DeAngelo Epps made the second team. Montraivis White made the All-Freshman team.

Wingate’s Donell Nixon is the SAC Player of the Year, while Wingate’s Brian Good is the SAC Coach of the Year. Coker’s Andrew Leavell is the SAC Newcomer of the Year. Lincoln Memorial’s Wes Enis was voted SAC Freshman of the Year.
