College baseball: Rusher’s 12th-inning homer provides sweep of Bears

SALISBURY — Catawba’s baseball teams swept Lenoir-Rhyne in a Saturday doubleheader at Newman Park.

The Indians won a 15-5 romp, followed by a 7-6 marathon that was decided by Bo Rusher’s 12th-inning home run.

Everyone’s stats got a boost in the first game. Levi Perrell had a triple and two doubles and scored five runs. Drew Robertson had two doubles. Ty Hubbard hit his first homer of the season, a two-run blast in the seventh, and drove in three runs.

Cole Hales drove in three. Dylan Driver, Sam Hunter and Logan Rogers had two hits each. Rusher knocked in two.

Austin Fine got the job done on the mound, allowing three runs in six innings to boost his record to 3-1.

In the second game, Rogers hit his third homer of the season and Hunter walloped his second to help the Indians get to extra innings.

Hunter had three hits, while Driver, Robertson and Rogers had two each.

Starting pitcher Payne Stolsworth worked into the sixth inning.

Brandon Rodgers (1-0) shut out Lenoir-Rhyne for five innings in relief and gave the Indians the opportunity to pull it out on Rusher’s walk-off homer.

Catawba (12-5, 3-2) will try to sweep the South Atlantic Conference series from the Bears on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Newman Park.
