Home damaged in Kannapolis fire, cat rescued

KANNAPOLIS — A Kannapolis homeowner and their cat were rescued from a fire on Thursday afternoon.

Kannapolis fire crews responded to a structure fire in the 1400 block of Cottage Road at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Thursday. There, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from a single-wide trailer, a fire official on scene said.

The fire official said that the emergency responders were able to rescue the homeowner’s cat from the fire. The homeowner, who was home at the time, was not hurt in the incident. The interior of the home suffered fire damage as a result of the incident.

Kannapolis Fire Department was the first on the scene and held command. Firefighters from Landis Fire Department responded to the home to assist in the efforts. Kannapolis fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
