SALISBURY — Rockwell Alderman Dillon Brewer has announced that he intends to withdraw from the race for a seat on the Rowan County Board of Commissioners. Brewer said that instead of moving on to county government, he wanted to continue his work with the town of Rockwell as well as prioritize his education.

Brewer has served on the Rockwell Board of Aldermen since he was first elected in 2021. He was recently reelected in 2023 to serve another term, becoming one of the first three aldermen to serve a four-year term in the town.

“After thoughtful consideration, I have decided to withdraw from the county commissioner race to prioritize my commitment to finishing my education. This decision will allow me to dedicate more time and energy to serving as alderman for Rockwell, ensuring its continued progress and improvement. I believe that by focusing on both my education and the betterment of Rockwell, I can contribute more effectively to the long-term well-being of our community,” Brewer said in a written statement.

Brewer’s withdrawal will leave Craig Pierce, Angie Spillman, Jonathan S. Barbee and Mike Caskey as the candidates in the Republican primary for the two open commissioner positions.

Although Brewer says he is withdrawing, the deadline for withdrawal of a notice of candidacy was Dec. 12, three days before the filing period ended. According to information from the Rowan County Elections department, the withdrawal after the deadline means that Brewer’s name will still appear on the ballots.
