SALISBURY — In a long-standing holiday tradition of festivity and connection, Salisbury Academy’s middle school students threw their annual Christmas party for the clients at Rowan Vocational Opportunities this week. The party offered games, cookie decoration, refreshments, a photo booth and karaoke with RVO clients circulating through the student-led party stations.

“This tradition is a meaningful one for all involved, both the students and RVO,” said Heather Coulter, Salisbury Academy teacher and lead faculty coordinator for the event. “These are memorable interactions and relationships that build a love of service in our students, and the joy and smiles on the faces of the RVO clients are just radiant each year when we come.”

Among the 8th graders at the event was Autumn Latta.

“I loved seeing the RVO clients’ faces light up and how excited they were to see everything we put together for them,” Latta said. “It was true holiday cheer.”

Latta’s classmate Georgia Heilig added, “The clients at RVO were genuine and kind, and it makes me really happy to see how much this means to them. It means a lot to me too.”

The opportunity to interact with the clients at RVO proved to another 8th grader that even though they are young, they can still have a big impact.

“This party helped me realize how much good we can do as students to positively impact our community,” Fletcher Busby said.

Hayden Anderson added, “With some time and effort, we were able to really make their days at RVO. That feels good.”
