ROCKY MOUNT — The Golden LEAF Foundation announced the award of a $113,025 grant to Rowan Helping Ministries on Thursday, according to a release from State Sen. Carl Ford’s office. The grant will assist the organization with building construction, purchase of a cargo van and equipment.

The release states that the awarded funding is part of the Golden LEAF’s Food Distribution Assistance Program, which is aimed at increasing food assistance through local non-profit food banks and non-profits that partner with schools to provide food assistance to students. RHM’s grant is aimed at enabling the organization to receive, store and distribute more food.

The program is funded by federal State Fiscal Recovery Funds through the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services.

“Golden LEAF is pleased to be part of this project to enhance and expand the capacity of nonprofits to increase access to food for those in need in the community,” the organization said in the release.
