SALISBURY — Colorful friendships are forming and growing stronger between the participants at Trinity Living Center (TLC) and the first-graders at Salisbury Academy. With TLC being the first grade’s service partner for this school year, the students make regular trips to visit their pals at the center, read together and share in a variety of fun, themed activities.

Most recently, the first grade visited Trinity Living Center for an art collaboration made possible by the Center for Faith & the Arts. An artist in residence for the center, Shane Manier, led a painting activity for both the children and adults.

“I loved how we all did it together and had so many different colors,” student Madelyn Yoder said.

Another student, Aislyn Harborth, added, “I loved getting to paint with the older people.”

Taking an already enriching experience to the next level, the art created on the day of collaboration was used in an art show at Trinity Living Center this week, open to the greater community. Guests were able to stroll through the collection and take in the festive, holiday-themed artwork.

“I like painting scribbles and then doing it on the real paper like a real artist,” student Banks Whaley said.

Speaking on the partnership between Salisbury Academy and Trinity Living Center, Life Enrichment Director for the center Andrea Moore says that the partnership is a wonderful addition to TLC’s program and allows their participants a chance to interact with children and feel like they are a part of a bigger community.

“Watching our participants, many of whom have some form of dementia, be able to participate and act as a mentor to the children is priceless,” said Moore. “The love of children is something folks never seem to forget.

“The days that Salisbury Academy’s students come to visit are certainly the best.”

Student Jonathan Reid agreed.

“That was the most fun day with TLC,” Reid said.
