High school soccer roundup: Carson, South, Salisbury win county matchups

CHINA GROVE — Carson celebrated Senior Night with a 5-1 South Piedmont Conference win against East Rowan.

East (6-13-1, 3-13) has been playing very well of late, but couldn’t contain the Cougars, who moved closer to a berth in the 3A state playoffs.

Anthony Medina Beckham and Daniel Alvarez scored two goals each for the Cougars (9-8-3, 8-4-3).

Drew Hodges scored on a penalty kick.

Andrew Carter and Diego Vasquez had assists.

Kevin Guerreo made six saves.

East’s goal was by freshman Patrick Sanchez, with freshman Gates Brady assisting.

Marcus Hoyt made 15 saves for the Mustangs, who have completed SPC action but play at Salisbury on Wednesday.

Playoff brackets will be released on Oct. 27.

SPENCER — Salisbury won 3-1 at North Rowan on Monday to finish a 12-0 Central Carolina Conference season.

Abdul Eliwa scored twice f0r the Hornets and had five goals against North this season.

Joseph Hernandez Baca also scored for the Hornets.

Carlos Henriquez had two assists.

The Hornets (19-0-2) gave up an early goal on a defensive miscue. Allan Baquedano scored for the Cavaliers (10-7-1,8-3-1), who finished second in the league.

Salisbury leveled the match before halftime when David Austin found Eliwa, who buried a back-post goal.

Salisbury took control in the second half. Henriquez found Eliwa for the tie-breaking goal.

The Hornets made it 3-1 with eight minutes left on the goal by Hernandez Baca.

Salisbury is home on Wednesday and will celebrate the careers of  Yatti Avilez, Mario Perez, Robert Moulton, Rene Castro Ramon, Baca, Leonardo Fragoso and  Henriquez on Senior Night.

The match is at 6 p.m.

MOUNT ULLA — There’s never a shortage of surprising results in the SPC where anyone can beat anyone on a given night.

South Rowan upset West Rowan 4-1 on the Falcons’ Senior Night on Monday.

Grayson Steedley scored twice for the Raiders (6-15, 3-12). Alex Morales and Michael Coles had goals.

Allan Ballinas Gutierrez made six saves.

Andres Vazquez scored the goal for West (10-8, 7-8).
