Golf: Rowan Masters championship

CHINA GROVE — Nick Lyerly successfully defended his Rowan Masters championship on Sunday.

The top-seeded Lyerly topped seventh-seeded Ritchie Fesperman in the final, 6 and 5.

Fesperman staged a late comeback and won on an extra hole over 30th-seeded Stephen Bullock to advance in one morning semifinal, while Lyerly eliminated eight-time champion Keith Dorsett, the No. 4 seed, in the other.
