SALISBURY — A Salisbury woman faces child abuse charges after being stopped for impaired driving with a two-month-old baby in the car.
The woman called her father to get the baby and he was also impaired, Salisbury police said.
Police charged Brittney Lauren Shupe, 23, of the 1800 block of Goodson Road, with misdemeanor impaired driving, misdemeanor child abuse and simple possession of a controlled substance.
Mark Stephen Mowery, 58, also of the 1800 block of Goodson Road, was charged with misdemeanor impaired driving.
Sgt. Russ DeSantis said an officer responded Thursday to 1300 block of South Jake Alexander Boulevard for a collision. The driver, who was identified as Brittney Shupe, was intoxicated, DeSantis said.
The officer seized Xanax bars and Gabapentin — an anti-epileptic drug. DeSantis said Shupe called her parents to get the child. When father Mark Mowery arrived, the officer noted that he was also intoxicated.
The baby was left in the custody of a friend, DeSantis said.
Both Shupe and Mowery were issued a written promise to appear in court.
