SALISBURY — A Salisbury man faces assault charges after police said he used a baseball bat to beat a friend.

The victim, who was found bloodied, was also robbed, said Salisbury Police detective Russ DeSantis.

Billy Meaders, 50, was charged on Monday with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was issued a $10,000 secured bond.

The victim was at the home of Meaders in the 1000 block of West Horah Street sometime between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. when he was attacked, according to DeSantis.

While at the West Horah Street apartment, the victim told detectives someone arrived to sell Meaders crack cocaine. At some point in the night, Meaders became upset with the victim and began hitting him with a baseball bat, police said.

Meaders also took some money from the victim, DeSantis said.

The victim left the apartment and was found in the 800 block of West Bank Street. Police arrived at the location after receiving a call about the assault.
