Three more died after testing positive for COVID-19 in Rowan County

SALISBURY — Three additional individuals have died from COVID-19 in Rowan County, bringing the total to 15 deaths, according to the county’s Monday update.

In the update, six more positive cases of COVID-19 were confirmed, bringing the county’s total to 256 positives after 1,864 tests have been conducted. The largest, single source of positive cases is the Citadel nursing home on Julian Road. A total of 15 individuals are being hospitalized and 55 individuals have recovered. No additional information was provided Monday about the individuals who died.

State data, which is updated each morning, states that 79,484 tests have been completed statewide, bringing the confirmed case count to 6,764 with 179 deaths. A total of 373 individuals are currently being hospitalized.

Other Rowan County COVID-19 statistics from the daily update:

  • Individuals aged 65 and older remain the plurality of positive cases at 122 individuals. There have been 44 cases for individuals aged 18-35 and 51-64, and 45 cases for the age range of 36-50.
  • Females continue to make up the majority of positive cases, with 142 female positive cases to the 114 male positive cases.
  • Of the individuals who have tested positive, 139 are white, 65 are black or African-American, 30 are of an unknown race, 18 are white/hispanic, 2 are Asian and 2 are “other.”
  • Zip code 28147 continues to be the largest area impacted, with 137 confirmed cases for the area. A major outbreak at the Citadel nursing home falls within the 28147 zip code.
