SALISBURY — City government on Sunday announced that it would close all recreation centers until further notice in conjunction with the spread of coronavirus, or COVID-19.

The city said its decision followed guidance by federal, state, the Rowan County Public Health Department and other agencies. On Saturday, Gov. Roy Cooper announced a prohibition on gatherings of more than 100 people.

“The health and safety of you, your family, and our employees remains a priority,” the city said in its announcement. “Thank you for your understanding.”

City Parks and Recreation facilities include Hall Gym, the Miller Recreation Center, Fred M. Evans Pool, City Park Recreation Center and Salisbury Civic Center.

The city said it encourages the public to utilize online services or phone calls as an alternative to face-to-face interactions. To reach city parks staff by phone, call (704) 216-PLAY. Email Salisbury Parks and Recreation at PLAY@salisburync.gov.
