Additional local event cancellations or postponements

Below are additional event cancellations that are occurring in conjunction with health concerns about the coronavirus and COVID-19.

• Rowan County government has announced that non-essential meetings for citizens will not be held in county buildings through April 14. That excludes county commissioners meetings. It includes but is not limited to gatherings and events at the West End Plaza Event Center, library and parks.

• The Genealogical Society of Rowan County will not meet March 17 at the Rowan Public Library.

• The grand opening of the Friends of Rowan Public Library Second Saturday Bookshop has been postponed to April 14.

• The Rhythm & Run 5K fundraiser for NC Music Hall of Fame in Kannapolis has been postponed and will be rescheduled. Also postponed — Open House Celebration of the Atrium Health Ballpark, Spring it On Run, and Senior Day Trips. The city will announce new dates for these events as soon as possible.

Other Kannapolis changes: Instead of paying a water and sewer bill in person, citizens may use the automated phone system, pay online, use our drop boxes at City Hall (indoors and in the parking lot), or mail your utility bill payment.  See this link for details – www.kannapolisnc.gov/utilitybilling

Beginning Monday, March 16 – Kannapolis will postpone or cancel all activities such as programs, special events and activities until April 14.

Canceled: Daddy and Daughter Dance, Open Gym, Zumba, Cheer, Self-Defense Classes, Girls Who Code, dodgeball and all youth sports such as basketball and soccer.

The March and April City Council, Planning Board and Board of Adjustment meetings will continue as planned but social distancing guidelines will be followed.

All parks are open for general use. All rentals of shelters and events planned in the parks are canceled until April 14. The train and carousel in Village Park will not open until April 14.

All rental of city facilities such as the Laureate Center, Train Station and Village Park Program Room, are canceled as of Monday, March 16. If you have rented a city facility, please contact ecox@kanapolisnc.gov to reschedule your event or activity. Deposits will be refunded upon request.

• The remaining Rowan County History Classes are canceled. The final speakers will be filmed and distributed to class members.

• The Hall House will be closed for the next three weekends.

• The Trellis Supportive Care Rowan and Mobile Mammogram Unit at the Salisbury Business Center for March 19 has been canceled.

• American Legion Post 342 has cancelled all functions for the rest of the month of March. Future notices will be posted on social media, the Salisbury Post and by word of mouth.

• The Back Creek Bluegrass Boys concert at Unity Presbyterian Church on Sunday has been canceled.

• Rowan County Parks and Recreation has canceled or postponed a number of events, including the SilverArts Art Show and Extravaganza, which has been postponed until a future date; Shakers Dance for March, which has been canceled; the 32nd Annual VIP Miniature Golf Tournament, which has been canceled; and the Special Olympics, which has canceled all events through March 31.

• The Rufty-Holmes Senior Center remains open to receive calls and provide needed outreach services, though most classes and programs have been canceled. The center advises calling before coming to scheduled events. The six county lunch club sites will provide meals for pick-up only and prior reservations are still needed.

• Rowan County Alzheimer’s Support Group will not meet this month.

• The March 21 Bell Tower Ringers Handbell Festival has been canceled at First Presbyterian Church.

• Canceled: Tower of Power United Holy Church 601 East Cemetery St Prayer, Healing, and Deliverance Service March 20 at 7 pm.

• Event at Fort Dobbs Canceled: “War for Empire” in Statesville was scheduled for April 4-5.

• The Cabarrus Arts Council has canceled the remainder of its March events, including the Art Walk, Susan Werner & David Miles concert at The Davis Theatre, the Art Lab at The Galleries and the Art on Dance Party at The Galleries,

• The 25th Anniversary Gala for Center for Faith and the Arts, which was scheduled for March 21, has been postponed. Staff will contact those who have purchased tickets next week with the new date and further information. In addition, Noelle Rasmussen’s art opening and photography classes have been canceled.

• New Sarum Brewing Company has postponed its anniBEERsary celebration scheduled on April 18. The brewery said it will reschedule the celebration for Oct. 3. The company says normal operations will continue in the brewery and taproom and that there will still be a special beer release on April 18 that will available in to-go packages.

• From the city of Salisbury: The presentations from boards and commissions scheduled for  Thursday (3/19) has been cancelled and the reception has been postponed.  The reception that was scheduled to follow the presentations has been postponed.

• Salisbury Youth Council meetings and activities for March have been canceled.

• The Fair Housing Committee meeting on April 13 has been canceled.

• The Salisbury Symphony announced that the “Dream of America” concert scheduled for March 14 has been postponed.

• The ESU’s Castlebay concert on March 19 has been canceled.

• Lee Street theatre will not be offering The Jeff Little Trio nor the Now Are the Foxes Comedy Improv Troupe this weekend.

• Muddy Sneaker’s Mountainfilm on Tour-Salisbury scheduled for March 27 was postponed. The event will be rescheduled for early summer.

• The Rowan County Republican Party convention scheduled for March 14 was postponed. A new date will be determined later.

• The Ministers of Comedy Fundraiser for the Dixonville-Lincoln Memorial on March 21 has been canceled.

• The Job Fair at the Salisbury VA on March 21 has been postponed. A new date will be determined

• The Dixonville-Lincoln Memorial Task Force Meeting on March 17 has been canceled.

• Ring in Spring on April 4 has been canceled.

• The Hurley Park Spring Celebration scheduled for April 5 is postponed. A new date will be determined later.

• Touch-A-Truck on April 18 is postponed. The event will be rescheduled.

• The Salisbury Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball Program for the spring season has been canceled.
