JON C. LAKEY/SALISBURY POST A wall of lead bricks weigh 40 pounds each were used to adda a another layer of protection against escaping radiation from the Linear Accelerator.

Masonry work is being completed on the exterior walls of the Wallace Cancer Institute, while efforts to complete drywall, wiring and other amenities continue on the interior.

The installation of new 15-ton bi-parting sliding doors will secure a linear accelerator for radiation oncology at the facility, which will include several infusion treatment rooms. The 32,000-square-foot building will combine Novant Health’s
radiation oncology and medical oncology departments, along with other services, and is expected to be ready for patients by August.
