Collegiate honors

Tyler Hendley, of Kannapolis, was named to the Dean’s List at Clemson University.

Jacob Wiles, of Salisbury, was named to the President’s list at Clemson University.

Zachary Tatarka, of China Grove was named to the Dean’s List at Coastal Carolina University.

Celebrations from latest Board of Education meeting

South Rowan High School FFA students placed at the National Agriscience Fair during the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. The SRHS chapter ranked as a three star gold chapter. Lauren Shell placed third in the Animal Systems Division Five Agriscience Fair. Abbey Zentmeyer placed seventh in the Plant Systems Division Five Agriscience Fair.

A pair of Salisbury High School Football Players were honored for athletic performance in the 2AA Championship game in December. Mike McLean was named Most Outstanding Offensive Player and Zae Clay was named Most Outstanding Defensive Player.

Carson High students Adrianna Mullis and Hannah Heard received honorable mentions in a national arts competition.

East Rowan High School Teacher Cindy Adkins received a Gold Star Teacher Award from the Working in Support of Education Financial Literacy Program for the 2018-2019 school year with at least 90% of her students certified financially literate and for being one of the country’s best financial educators.

Knollwood Elementary School Teacher Katie Gardner was named a National Geographic Certified Educator. The certification allowed Gardner to become more skilled at inspiring and teaching children about caring for our changing world to make it a better place.

West Rowan High School Teacher Tori Cardea was selectioned as National Association of Agriculture Educators Achievement Teachers Turn the Key Professional Development participant as an early career agriculture teacher.

Rockwell Elementary School teacher Gina Ritchie received an Inspiration Award from Rowan-Salisbury Schools for demonstrating and inspiring the extraordinary for student success.
