GRANITE QUARRY — Two men are dead after a shooting Wednesday morning on North Main Street.

The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. in the 400 block of North Main Street, between Crook Street and East Kerns Street.

Granite Quarry Police Chief Mark Cook said two males were already dead when law enforcement arrived at the scene. Cook declined to say whether the incident was a murder-suicide, but said that police were not looking for a suspect. Neither male lived at the residence.

The home belongs to a third party, Cook said.

Cook said a neighbor called 911 and said shots had been fired at a residence; a nearby officer arrived within seconds. He said that call was followed by others who reported the shooting. The police agency requested assistance from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

The family of one of those deceased has been notified, but the law enforcement agency must still notify the other, Cook said.

A Granite Quarry firefighter could be seen carrying a young woman with no shoes to the car of a detective, who appeared to be interviewing her. The woman was visibly upset while at the scene. Another woman who arrived on the scene, and is believed to be the mother of the young woman, demanded that officers let her see her daughter.
