KANNAPOLIS — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who robbed the Rushco convenience store in Kannapolis and held the clerk at gunpoint, said Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford.

The robbery occurred Tuesday just before midnight at the store, located at 2023 West C St. The suspect did steal cash from the register, Sifford said.

According to the clerk, the man came in, pointed a small black handgun at her and ordered her behind the counter. He ordered her to open the register and give him the money inside it. He removed the drawer to see if there was more money in the register. He took a pack of cigarettes before he ordered her on the ground and then ran out, Sifford said.

The clerk said she didn’t recall seeing him leave in a vehicle.

The surveillance video shows the male wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, black sandals, a dark-colored ski mask with a red color around the mouth area and white paint. He wore latex gloves. The clerk said the male was white, about 6 feet tall and skinny.

According to investigators who reviewed the surveillance footage, it was determined the handgun was a semi-automatic pistol. A K-9 was brought in to track the suspect. The dog did note a scent in a business parking lot next door.

The investigators also noticed a tire pattern made out of the water near a puddle, Sifford said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 704-216-8700 or Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 866-639-5245.
