SALISBURY — A reader has asked what is being built on the corner of 152 and Organ Church Road outside of Rockwell.

The construction on the southeast corner of the intersection is a new Dollar General store, said Shane Stewart, the assistant director for Rowan County Planning and Development.

The construction of these stores usually takes 90 days, according to Stewart. The store received an initial pass in the beginning of October.

The store received approval for a rezoning in March, when a vocal crowd turned out planning board and Rowan County commissioners meetings to voice their opposition. That opposition prompted commissioners to ask developers to build in a more attractive style than other Dollar General stores in the county, with a monument-style sign, a stretch of full-length glass windows at the entrance, four small awnings at the entrance to the store and brick siding on parts of the building.

Joe Teramore, the Director of Operations for Teramore Development, said fixtures for the store are going to installed starting on Jan. 9.
