Area Sports: Wonders sweep Colts

KANNAPOLIS — A.L. Brown’s boys basketball team rolled against West Stanly, 88-49, on Thursday.

Kheni Briggs scored 19, JD Glenn had 18, and Mi’Keim Moore scored 16 for the Wonders (10-2). Nick Colson added 12.

A.L. Brown girls

KANNAPOLIS — Jala Campbell and Jaliyah Simmons scored 15 points each as A.L. Brown’s beat West Stanly, 58-50, on Thursday.

Jaliah Smoutherson had 14 points, and Kaylee Yow scored seven for the Wonders (4-8).

HS boys

MOUNT AIRY —  Zyun Reeves scored 13 points to lead East Forsyth’s boys to a 47-36 win at Mount Airy on Thursday.

Parks and Rec

The Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department is  accepting registrations for  girls (ages 7-15) and youth coed (ages 5-6) basketball leagues.

Cost is $30 per participant.

Register through Jan. 11 at Hall Gym or online at www.salisburync.gov/play.

Practices begin the end of January, while games start in February.  Call 704-638-5289 for information.

Women’s basketball

Tazah Hardin (South Rowan) had 14 points, nine steals and five rebounds for Catawba Valley Community College in  a 67-60 OT win against Walters State.
