SALISBURY — One person has died following an early morning Thursday two-vehicle crash on U.S. 601 near Potneck Road, Highway Patrol officials confirmed.

Lizandro Figueroa-Martinez, 21, was killed following a head-on collision with a dump truck. He was traveling north on U.S. 601 in a Honda when he crossed the center line into the path of the dump truck in the oncoming lane, leaving the Honda with significant damage, said Trooper Ned Moultrie.

Moultrie said Figueroa-Martinez was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene. The crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. and the roadway was closed as traffic was detoured and was reopened just before 9:30 a.m.

There’s been no immediate cause determined as officials continue to investigate the crash, Moultrie said.
