BOSTIAN HEIGHTS — The 18-year-old son of a Rowan County deputy was killed Wednesday night in a single-vehicle crash on Old Concord Road.

The N.C. Highway Patrol said Alexander Jason Owens, who lived on Lentz Road, died after his vehicle struck a tree about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Old Concord Road, near Crepe Myrtle Lane in the Bostian Heights area.

Owens was the son of Deputy Jason Owens of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, who told the Highway Patrol at the scene that his son was likely coming home from his job at Fed-Ex.

Alexander Owens graduated from Carson High School in June.

According to the Highway Patrol, Owens was traveling north on Old Concord Road when his vehicle ran off the right side of the road in a left curve. He overcorrected, crossed the center line and struck a tree, the patrol reported.

He died at the scene.

Owens was wearing a seat belt, the report said. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash, according to the Highway Patrol.
